Role:

We are seeking a creative and self-motivated computational biologist, who will play a key role in prioritizing and advancing targets. This person will mine human biology data, including disease genetics, proteomics, metabolomics, and tissue and single-cell RNA-seq, to generate and analyze hypotheses.  We are looking for a person with a PhD, ideally with additional academic or industry experience, and a desire to be a part of a dynamic startup team. We value scientific rigor and intensity, but we are equally committed to building a fun and welcoming team.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • PhD in biology or related field

  • Programming experience is required, but no particular languages.

  • Experience in generating hypotheses from human genetic data

Mitochondria possess numerous functions in the cell that include energy production, cellular signaling and metabolite/metal ion homeostasis. Mitochondrial dysfunction underlies many diseases and aberrant solute transport plays a key role in pathogenesis. Jnana seeks a passionate scientist to help explore the therapeutic potential of SLC targets that impinge on mitochondrial function.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • PhD in mitochondrial biology, with 2+ years post doctorate experience desirable

Cellular Assay Development (Principal Scientist Level)

Role:

The successful candidate with cellular assay development experience and expertise will help guide research efforts with biology colleagues to establish a suite of cellular assays.  This role requires a self-starter with a Pharma or Biotech track record working in various disease area discovery projects, guiding assay design, development and optimization.  A deep knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, and/or cell biology along with current assay platforms applied to both medium and high throughput screening, will enable you to guide our team and help establish our platform biology for a broad portfolio of projects in multiple disease areas including neurology, immune-mediated disorders, and Immuno-oncology.

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsibility for the design, development, validation, and optimization of a variety of cell-based assays, including those involving membrane protein transport and binding

  • Proficiency with assay design with a variety of cell types including neuronal, immune, and epithelial cells

  • Using excellent scientific and personal communication skills to work cross-functionally internally and externally with CRO partners 

  • Presentation of results to the team, leadership, and Board members regularly with full transparency

  • Investigation of the scientific literature and application of external knowledge to internal drug discovery programs when appropriate

 Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular or Cellular Biology with 7+ years of industry success in drug discovery

  • Expertise with in vitro cell-assay design, troubleshooting, and optimization required 

  • Experience with membrane protein (e.g. GPCR, ion channel, SLC or ABC transporters) assays would be ideal

  • An innate ability to take on novel challenges and provide creative solutions to teams across the portfolio

Role:

 Jnana Therapeutics is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Medicinal Chemist to join our expanding team.  This individual will use both traditional and parallel synthesis techniques to impact projects at all stages of discovery and development, and will be involved in the design and synthesis of tool molecules and chemical probes to further our understanding of SLC biology.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage in medicinal chemistry projects targeting SLCs of interest in collaboration with experienced medicinal chemists

  • Design and synthesis of small molecule modulators of SLC function

  • Design and synthesis of tool compounds and molecular probes to enable chemical biology target exploration

  • Interpret and analyze data using a range of software tools and computational approaches

  • Closely collaborate with colleagues, internal and external, in multiple scientific disciplines across R&D

  • Help to build and expand an innovative chemical biology platform for drug discovery 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry required, with + 1-5yr post-doctoral and/or industrial experience desirable

  • Expertise in modern synthetic methodologies and analytical techniques

Position Description:

Jnana Therapeutics is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Associate to support internal SLC drug discovery programs. Through small molecule screening and a range of cell-based assays, our research aims to expand our understanding of SLC transporter biology and ultimately discover drugs modulating these proteins. Prior experience is preferred but not required. Strong commitment and good work ethic are essential. Levels can be flexible based on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining mammalian cell culture. Primary cell culture experience is preferred.

  • Carrying out cell-based small molecule screening and/or functional assays

  • Assisting with molecular biology and cloning: Gibson assembly, bacterial transformation, and DNA minipreps/midipreps among others.

  • Performing cellular biology related protocols: siRNA/shRNA, CRISPR, RNA extractions, RT-qPCR, Western blotting and imaging, ELISA based assays, Flow cytometry analysis among others.

  • Participating and contributing to scientific discussions, meetings, and presentations.

  • Many different techniques will be used and training will be provided, but a desire to gain independence is important.

  • Working across scientific disciplines on multiple projects.

  • Helping to build and expand an innovative platform for drug discovery.

Qualifications: 

  • BS or MS in Biology or other relevant area.
