Associate Director/Director Alliance Management & Business Development

Jnana is seeking a well-rounded, experienced biopharma professional to serve in a multi-faceted role with responsibilities across alliance management, business development and business operations.  The role requires a range of leadership, relationship-development, analytic and process-management skillsets.  A central responsibility will be to serve as alliance leader for Jnana’s major, multi-target collaboration with Roche.  This position will report to Jnana’s Chief Business Officer.


  • Alliance Management – alliance leader for collaboration
    • Primary point person for Jnana partner, responsible for relationship-development and maintenance
    • Build expertise on partner company, including organization/leadership, strategies, financials and priorities. Become Jnana “internal expert” on partner company to help maximize alignment across companies
    • Quarterback creation and management of collaboration research plans and timelines
    • Lead planning, preparation and follow up for all alliance committee interactions
    • Strategize with Research and project team leadership and other necessary stakeholders to formulate positions and drive alignment process.
    • Develop familiarity with collaboration agreement and relevant terms
  • Business Development & Financing
    • Analytics: prospective partner identification, deal comparables, other deal and financial analytics
    • Drive creation of partnering & other pitch presentations
    • Manage diligence processes
    • Contribute to negotiation process
  • Business operations
    • Market opportunity assessments for potential programs
    • Competitive landscape assessment for programs in partnership with program leadership
    • Program management – over time, increasing role re: plans, budgets & management for internal programs


  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or PhD desired
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, including alliance or program management and/or business development experience
    • Years of experience to determine title
  • Healthcare consulting experience also desirable
  • Robust knowledge of pharmaceutical research and development process
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-development skills
  • Strong analytic and quantitative skills
  • Proven ability to identify, prioritize & resolve key project and partner issues
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication
